At Port Curtis Road State School, reading is at the heart of our teaching and learning. We are proudly implementing the Science of Reading approach across all year levels to ensure every child develops strong foundational literacy skills. In Prep to Year 2, our students learn through the Sounds-Write program, which explicitly teaches phonemic awareness, decoding, and spelling. From 2026, students in Years 3 to 6 will engage in the Word Origins program, a natural progression that builds on early reading foundations through explicit instruction in morphology and etymology. These evidence-based practices reflect our strong commitment to helping every child become a confident, capable, and enthusiastic reader and writer.
